One of the best things about the Heart Risk Snapshot (CT Calcium Score) is how simple and non-invasive it is. Unlike other cardiac tests, there are no needles, no "stress tests" on a treadmill, and no complicated fasting.
To ensure your heart rate is steady and the images are crystal clear, there are just a few small steps to follow.
Preparation Guidelines
Follow these simple steps in the lead-up to your appointment:
Avoid Intense Exercise: Refrain from heavy workouts for 24 hours before your scan.
Skip Caffeine: Avoid coffee, tea, energy drinks, and chocolate for 4–6 hours before your appointment.
Dress Comfortably: Wear loose-fitting clothes. Try to avoid metal fixtures like zips, hooks, or underwire bras.
Remove Metal: You will be asked to remove jewellery, watches, and belts before the scan.
Medication & Food: You may eat normally and continue taking your regular medications as prescribed.
Note: Because this is a non-invasive scan with no sedation, you will be able to drive yourself home or back to work immediately after the appointment.
What to Expect During the Scan
While you should allow 30–45 minutes for the total duration of your visit (including check-in), the actual time spent in the scanner is usually less than 5 minutes.
Check-In: When you arrive, simply check in at reception and mention you are an Everlab member.
The Scanner: You will lie on your back on a flat table that slides into the CT scanner. It is a large, doughnut-shaped machine that is open at both ends.
Hold Your Breath: To get a clear image of your coronary arteries, the radiographer will ask you to hold your breath for short bursts of 10–15 seconds.
No Injections: Unlike a standard CT, this scan does not require IV contrast dye or injections.
After the Scan
There is no recovery time or monitoring required. Once the images are captured, you are free to go.
No "Downtime": You can return to your normal diet and activities immediately.
Expert Review: The imaging provider will send the raw data to Everlab.
Your Results: Within a few days, an Everlab practitioner will be in touch via email to provide an in-depth video walkthrough of your results. You’ll be able to view this analysis and your full report in the Reports tab of your Everlab App.
